Turbines are typically mounted on a tall pole, as the wind is better up there. The higher the elevation the less encumbered the airflow will be.

Turbines can be horizontal (propeller) style or vertical. They can be mounted on top of an existing tree with special hardware. If you live where the wind blows constantly, then you are already in position to exploit this natural energy source.
